Take
your time and enjoy the haiku in this anthology. Haiku are meant
to be read slowly, allowing you enough time to imagine being there,
filling in all the blank parts of the picture that forms in your
mind. These haiku will take you back to childhood, to school, to
a child's perspective of the world. If these haiku and paintings
succeed, you will be moved to feel and associate with your own memories
and feelings. Hopefully, these haiku will be like old friends to
you.
I encourage
you to read them in the order designed, which follows the Japanese
tradition of arrangement of haiku books. We begin with the autumn,
since the workshops were completed in October, but we travel throughout
the year by memory and acts of the imagination. If you prefer to
