Centennial High School Haiku Cut Honorable Mentions

Haiku from all three workshop groups. April 2007

holding on
the choir sings
and the church bell rings

the clock ticks
he takes his life and 32 others
leaving families to cry

falling snow
frost bit toe
near the crackling fire

looking out the window
I grip the armrest
first flight

the rain comes down
dancing
on her window

slowly wake up
to the sound of a dump truck
start my day

mint leaves
on Tuesday evening
make war on ice

dawn shatters
glowing
sea foam dewdrops

light snow
creeps to fallen timber
my eye’s delight

tired path
long road home
soft bed

Winger pass
     winter pass…
I kiss her picture

I made a wish
upon a star
still I wait

purple sunset
floats on the lake
searching through a boat house

final shot
hoop swings
eyes balling

haiku…
three lines long
enough said

Senior year
hanging out with friends
uncertain about the future

class dismissed
line of blondes
all eyes on their cell phones

two tango onstage
rose stem on his lips
                       he trips

a tear from a geisha’s eye
lost somewhere on a silk scarf
a death letter

The gentle breeze falls.
my face is lit aflame, though
my heart remains cold.

closing my fist
heaven is in my grasp
it’s waiting for you
