Wishing Well
by
Alec Campbell
bronchioles strain
should have been
born a fish
leaves uncurl
revealing corn and meat
tamale night
eyes that shine like justice
her voice is dark
like tinted glass
left unlocked
clean white sheet
around her neck
icy cold feeling
taking the plunge
into social situations
wishing well
trying to stop
remembering her
at least rainclouds
never told me
I'm not good enough
zoology
in the tall grass
I make new friends
stuck in the mud
finding religion
there is no try
wrought iron
my father's
gruff embrace
pit bull with one eye
we teach oursevles
how not to love
last stretch
truest of friends
I'll carry you if I have to
memories of a lost brother
I solemnly swear that I'm
up to no good
skin on skin
the stars shine brighter
with every kiss
fumbling with
backwards buttons
they undress each other
deleting Facebook friends
draining the water
from macaroni
