Look Into Me

by
Brandi DeLeonardo

I decided to name my haiku "look into me." The reason I decided to name my collection this is mostly because a lot of my haiku is very personalized and tailored to a feeling I was having at the moment I wrote it. I have always been so much better at writing what I am feeling because it is easier for me to explain and, a lot of the time, for someone else to relate to. Feelings are a universal language that I speak well, and I have always been able to pour them onto a page in blood, sweat, and tears. It is with this in mind that I hope my haiku speak to you and make you feel.

walking in silence
winter night sky
so many stars

loneliness—
a single leaf
hanging from the tree

invisible
sitting at this table
only my waiter sees me

my friends laughter
smiling, I glance over;
the man who broke me

a flame is lit
fanning it
will it grow?

in the silence
I bury myself
beneath blankets

hot shower
guilt and fear
my poisons of choice

first date jitters
awkward laughing
I sit in the wrong car
