Sparrow's Song

Sparrow's Song

ground covered with leaves
a fiery blanket
of autumn

hands gathered 'round a table
looking at a turkey

all the pews
filled
church bells ringing

first frost
covers the tree branches

skating over
the moon's reflection
in the ice

sparrow's song
fills the morning air

sunlight
reflecting off
skyscrapers

our toes
sinking into the green grass

an artist
paints from his window
an old tree stump

mouth open
a koi fish surfaces

approaching the top of the hill
what might
lay beyond

February service
hands clasped in silence

illuminating
storm clouds,
the full moon

waking up
to the smell of bacon

turning to a fresh page
crisp
notebook paper

bird's nest
sits tight in the gutter

come and gone
cherry blossoms
remain in memory

kid's table
covered in crayon marks

spring rain
pulling on
our rainboots

baby ducks
following the leader

rosary clinks
against
grandma's rearview mirror

jasmine perfume
intoxicates her lover

vase of flowers
colors dull
with time

sprouts appear
alongside the oldest tree

praying mantis
lifts its arms
in defense

humming the song
she sings in the shower

neat stacks of laundry
on the edge
of the bed

last petal
blown away by a soft wind

day moon
peaks through
white clouds

quiet night
braiding wet hair

fighting sleep
as he pulls into
the driveway

last drop of tea
on the nightstand

mama raccoon watching
her babies
drift into slumber

young doe walks over
fallen branches

couple's first date
dancing among
the cherry blossoms

small sailboat creating waves
reaching the shore
