Before Thanksgiving

the end of fall
signaled by
the winter wind

snow coats
the autumn leaves

before thanksgiving
the neighbors
begin caroling

tree in the window
lights hung on trees

late nights spent
staring at the moon
on the frozen lake

birds head south
no songs sung

love in the air
grasping his hand
to keep warm

a walk in the park
with visible breath

a mother deer
frolics through a field
leaving footprints

the fresh snow
no longer untouched

the sound of a snow blower
my least favorite
alarm clock

walking to school
in the freezing cold

wishing we
could be gazing at
the summer moon

pretending
we are at the beach

toes in the sand
perched under
a yellow umbrella

a sailboat bobs
on the ocean

waking up
to a lack
of cherry blossoms

Christmas in July
doesn't exist

presents under the tree
patiently waiting
to be unwrapped

cookies on a plate
ready for a visitor

Christmas morning
the late sleeper
becomes an early bird

the beautiful sunrise
orange, pink, purple

the college student
home for the holiday
dodges questions

do you have a boyfriend?
what are you studying again?

icicles hang
from every
nook and cranny

boys play hockey
on the outdoor rink

hot chocolate
warms the hands
of their mothers

pine needles scattered
on the fresh snow

the temperature
colder than
the lonely moon

heat blasting
in every home

snow drifting
floating past
the snowman

melted snow
revealing green grass

warm weather
children playing catch
in the front yard

pink flowers sprout
in the bushes

picnic in the park
potato salad littered
with cherry blossoms

love and laughter
in the spring air
