Patiently Waiting

Spring frost
my pepper plant
got a little chili

Adding the heat
to my food

in the kitchen
a masterpiece
I am cooking

slicing the pepper
it begins to sweat

The only light
enters the windows
from the moons

doing my best
To bring the family together

I place the salsa
on the table
vultures swarm

vultures with rules
"No double dipping"

In and out
salsa gone
in seconds

back to my plant
he bears one more

After the final harvest
seeds planted
new life begins

my new child
will be carefully cared for

When I am away
Mr. Moon
will watch over

The plant has grown
so quickly

almost time
for my new peppers
to be picked

I promise the kids
another batch of salsa

The eyes of
the children
bloom like cherry blossoms

wide grins
they say
they'll be watching
