Eternal Love

their special tree
she stands there
alone

roots overgrown
it stands tall and firm

sharing
what we once had
living

she picks up the remainder
and puts him in his crib

the moon
shines his light
through the blinds

pale glow reflected
in the droplets of rain

the cold wet grass
between my toes
I escape

gasping for air
not looking behind me

a step
into the unknown
wind through my hair

that feeling in my gut
I can’t move my feet

the surrounding walls
slowly closing in
the lights flicker

the candle
illuminates my bedside

the moon’s brightness
reminds her
it was just a dream

white light from the kitchen
blinds her eyes

an orange purple sky
on the horizon
a new day

baby birds squawk
for the warmth of their mother

the nest
fits perfectly
in the tree of cherry blossoms

eternally blooming
just like our love
