He Opens His Eyes

Haiku Introduction:

Haiku is about beauty. And finding the beauty in everyday life is a hard task. But when you just sit and listen to a haiku being read, and picture the words in your mind, you are taken to a different world, the world of your imagination. Your imagination conjures up images in your mind of things you may or may not have ever seen before, and then these images merge together, and create a story. The haiku that I have chosen for my collection are those that I found possessed the most internal beauty. Whether they are about relationships, family, nature, or objects, they all contain my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I chose the title “He Opens His Eyes” because I think it is representative of what haiku is all about. When we read, write, or listen, we are woken up by the beauty of everyday life and the things that surround. We finally can start to see something that has been in front of our faces our entire life, and appreciate being human and all of it that comes with it. I hope that when you sit back and read or listen to these haiku, that you can see the beauty in them as well, just as I do. ~Trey

Reader’s Introduction:

Trey’s writing is very diverse and covers a broad range of topics. But it never fails to make you stop and think. He creates images in your head the miraculously flow together and combine to create something very special. When I read them, I am always transported to a different place and I can sense the atmosphere and feel the emotion and mood of the haiku. I love how each of his haiku has a story, but only the reader can determine what it actually is. They are very unique to the reader and everyone can find something in them. ~Mia

restaurant parking lot
we hug one another
and wish each other well

humid night
she clicks off the lamp
creaking above

sound asleep in the dorm
train horn
there you are Millikin

running to class
he opens the door
an empty room

he comfortably sits
on his bed
of lies

cracked pavement
he slowly disappears
from view

sunlight through the blinds
I touch the warm imprint
he left beside me

scratched wooden desk
she daydreams
about her future

chipped paint
rusted metal
she rides in circles atop the horse

a knock on the door
she looks through the peephole
an eye stares back

superman socks
he confronts the bully
during math class

he opens his eyes
and looks at everyone
while they say grace

PLAYBILL HAIKU

silent ballroom
her shoes glisten with
every step

boots laced tightly
a box full of gin
in my arms

my arm grasped
around her waist
midnight

alone in a tower
the ringing bells
keep me company

the last girl
in the village
a glass slipper
