Coffee Made by a Friend

This collection is a compilation of the haiku I think best represent the story of this semester. Each of these haiku is based on a real experience that happened either to me, or that I witnessed. These are the things I enjoy noticing in life, so, of course, they would be the source of my inspiration! I hope you enjoy!

Reader's Introduction

Daria's haiku writing is very honest and observant. She does a great job at observing the world around her & transcribing it without bias. Her haiku are genuine thoughts rather than idealized concepts. Through her haiku we get a glimpse into the world through her eyes. In her writing she describes mundance events that reveal her inner feelings. All people can relate to her haiku in some way. ~ Isabella Spiritoso

I don’t know what
to do with my hands . . .
pockets

orion’s belt
a path that leads
me to you

arriving home to
a warm hug and
turned down bed

oncoming panic attack
breathe in        breathe out
can I feel my toes?

hot apple cider
steams under
the crisp stars

house creaks
I watch too much
Criminal Minds

          grocery shopping
for one                        I come home
          to an empty house

faded sheet music
passed from mother
to daughter

soft indie music
tea gently brews
as she waits

Green glitter trails
after her
she flies unafraid

twisting her mother’s ring
she quakes and
begins to speak

Cemetery Day:
the man plants seeds
next to forgotten names

spooky movie marathon
I curl deeper into the
safety of your chest

Crossing borders for hopeful futures
there is no star
to guide us

no money for coffee
I’ll use this time
for a walk

dad’s guitar
scuffed and dented
makes my favorite music

in my hair
a crown of snowflakes
“I’m a snow princess”

swallowing words
i push back my
nail beds

snapchat from my dad
i drop everything
to respond
