Haiku to Edit 1

Global Haiku • Millikin University • Fall 2019

rainy days
as we say bye
to our childhood

coffee tastes better
when its shared
spoken or unspoken

the wind
tousles my hair
like an old friend

the whole world
stops
when she calls my name

I kick a rock
down the road
just like life

for the first time
i don’t mind if
rain fades my hair dye

on the roadside
acorns
crushed underfoot

a child’s eyes
deeper meaning
is not always needed

oh, wallflower:
what the walls
of a library would say

a house
full of estrogen
oh God

water splashing
the breeze caresses my face
serenity

water beads on
the flower
like a jewel

they say snowflakes are completely unique
people seem to forget
rocks are too

little stone bridge
cracked
but not broken

blankets
keep me warm
when my heart is cold

lonely Friday dinners
Saturday morning commitments
i wish something would change

she likes
me better
without makeup

if even moths can notice light
why can you
only notice the darkness

through a portal
            sad thoughts
begin to die

homeless man holds a sign:
I am more than what you
choose for me to be

she tilts
her head
a question
