why do i get to
sit on the couch

cricket hops on the step
a day later
ants

colorful leaves
on a new bike path
we turn around at the hill

the creak of the door
when he enters
I know

in a glass case
the cake remains
undelivered

tree in the front yard
massive since I was born
cut down . . . for safety

glass reflection
my own breath fogging
the quiet morning

blank screen
the cursor blinks
impatiently

unfolded laundry
a shirt I haven’t seen
in weeks

shoes strewn about
a lone penny
amongst them

the willow droops with age
heart heavy with history
outside the old plantation

the open classroom window
lets is a breeze
blowing my papers away

road trip
squished
in the middle seat

climbing the steps
I reach class
out of breath

listening to the piano
I surprise myself
knowing every word

rolling down
the grassy hill
butterfly belly laughs

little bro’s
height marks
over my head

hear the lilacs
floating
on the melody

two in love 
holidays approaching 
to meet the family

comfy in my bed
ball of fuzz tucks herself
between my arms

the salad bar
on . . . and off . . .

sorority initiation
the kitchen 
barely recognizable

buttery hands
from the fresh popcorn 
our first date

Taco Bell date 
late at night
he always finds time

pollen on my skin
a hint of what could become
if i let things bloom

study room silence 
the clock's second hand 
carves the hour

soft paths of gold
for the souls
we light the candles

deadlines pile up
like snow

same tired reflection 
when is break?

I wring out the thunder 
still in my sleeves

peaceful leaves float
down stream
