1

snow day
the radio crackles
before sunrise

2

winter coat
the sleeves still too long
like every year

3

snowy day
phone call
in pajamas all day

4

icy sidewalk
my mom grips my hand
tighter

5

Grandma’s embrace
bundled up under a blanket
peace on earth

6

frosty playground
my breath shapes ghosts
for a second

7

favorite flower
a bouquet of red roses
atop the casket

8

stoic composure
uniform presented sharply
training complete

9

hands in cold water
tree line seeming endless
too young for a paddle

10

boots missing
backpack waiting by the door
a snow day

11

your voice fades away
a whisper of what once was
no missing you . . . yet

12

rental skates
circling around the rink
zamboni waits

13

frozen swing set creaks
no one wants to be the first
to touch the cold chains

14

night rain on the roof
I listen and do nothing
almost asleep

15

mittens hang from lines
one collects snowflakes
twenty feet below

16

empty bus seat here
I put my bag next to me
ride feels very long

17

snowball hits my face
grandma chuckles from the window
cheeks go engine red

18

wind flies in my hair
convertible windows down
giggles fill the backseat

19

coat zipper stuck
halfway up
I struggle

20

snow falling
boot tracks across a field
heart beating fast

21

cold metal
on a winter sled
dragged by a rope

22

pulling of a fishing pole
unwinding reel
the splash of a fish

23

winter parking lot
one shopping cart drifting
without direction

24

quiet snowfall
the streetlight groans
above me

25

fuzzy socks
for the cold floor
a wake up hole

26

breathing in the cold
we dare each other
one more hill

27

streetlight snow
our shadows stretch
past bedtime

28

chalk dust
sticks to our fingers
long after class

29

can’t fall asleep
tomorrow playing
over and over

30

sunset in the mirror
I sit in the driveway
engine still running

31

long after the sirens stop
the weight of what he couldn’t fix
not ready to move

32

bumpy sidewalk
dust trails behind
the wheels

33

late night drive
your hand finds mine
green light

34

boots dripping at the door
salt scattered
early dark again

35

long beats of silence
the awkward stage
of a budding friendship

36

they always say
you’ll know when it's time
but it's hard to tell

37

snowfall at dusk
the world falls still
with the silence it brings

38

snowball hits my face
grandma chuckles from the window
cheeks go engine red

39

wind flies in my hair
convertible windows down
giggles fill the backseat

40

the wrench slips
a few choice phrases
busted knuckles

41

eyes wide
presents under the tree
warm home

42

whistling of the night
eyes watch
awake

43

salty mist breeze
vanishing tide
gone like a memory

44

kids on the sled
pulled around by dad
we slide off again

45

singing loudly
a dancing girl
in the rain

46

snowing outside
hot chocolate and
a favorite movie

47

layover bathroom break
to clean up
woosh the flight was missed

48

consciousness hits
relationship gone
not real back to sleep

49

pizza in a box
one slice turns to four
diet starts Monday

50

weekly paycheck
beginning the month
it’s ramen again

51

geeked on
my couch
Star Wars

52

pizza day
classic rectangle slice
a lunch delight

53

head in hands
Grandpa sinks further
the couch holds him

54

one wrong turn
her origami crane
unflappable

55

speaking to the stars
never like you
I learn who listens

56

morning mirror
I tie my hair back
again

57

a hopeful smile
chased at recess
first crush

58

clean kitchen
the hum of the fridge
after everyone sleeps

59

treehouse
hidden crayon maps
folded in the floor

60

before bed
the house exhales
with me

61

hospital room
a baby cries
in the distance

62

fresh sheets on the bed
clean laundry and quiet time
Sunday chores done

63

love of the sport
full box
fortnite

64

elevator hums,
floors slide past without meaning
arrival feels close

65

streetlight flickers off
morning pretends
nothing has changed

66

late night silence
my phone lights up
just once
