Live with Passion

by
Kailey Hurst

Free. Radical. Independent.
Her style is her own.
It’s personal, existential.

Her only fear is fish.
Her only weakness, shoes.
The blemish on her face adds character,
the scar on her shoulder adds strength,
the curl in her hair adds attitude.
There is no such thing as imperfection
Just originality.

Unmovable, Unshakeable, Unstoppable,
She is America’s next top role model.
Someone both inspired and inspiring.
She embraces her spirituality,
aspires to her dreams,
lives through her passions.
She just wants to around good energy
go on more adventures
learn new things
grow.
She is a world changer.

My haiku are inspired by many of my own experiences, dreams, or observations. I want them to be mysterious, abstract, and raw. My mommy told me I was born a spitfire. With that innate zeal I composed the following haiku.
My secret is simple, I pray.

adolescence
exploring physics . . .
I am late

kissing on my neck
arched back
head in the clouds

daydream
I tie my legs together
I am Ariel

Welcome home
my wicker chair gnawed
white rabbit

my mother preaches
it really is just a hangover

mother in law
I am the opposite
of grandiose

knocked to my seat
my face covered in saliva
he thinks he is a Corgi

our song comes on
maybe one day
I won’t change the station

hanging mistletoe
as we unite
the creaking door

Foster Care Haiku

night time potty break
a minefield of horrors
LEGOs strike again

day dreaming
bedtime stories
my own mom and dad

childproof locks
to the rescue
I can’t get into my cabinets anymore

no more Huggies
a jelly bean for
every potty
