Haiku Kukai 3 Favorites

cold hands Quentin Key (3) I really enjoyed hearing all the different readings that were discussed in class concerning this haiku. I think that the simplicity of this haiku also adds to the quality of the haiku. It only contains six words and packs a lot meaning into three lines. I read the haiku with the idea that this poem occurred at the end of a cold winter day. Mostly because of my experiences dealing with winter this week. I return home, finish the things that I have to do, become tired, and go to bed. I understand the reading that others had, where someone was passing away and had cold hands and glazed eyes for that reason. “Lights out” was just the phrase for the last bit of that person’s life ending. Either reading, I think that the phrase, “lights out,” is very appropriate because it gives a sudden end to the feelings that are described in the first two lines. Nathan |

no mirror Sarah Hoadley (3) I found this haiku very impactful with the image I got from reading it. I picture the person as a man and lover who maybe does not have a lot of self-confidence, but he can see how much the girl believes in him through her eyes. It could also just be that this person is a friend or family member of the girl, but that they are able to see all that they could be through her eyes and how she pictures, views, and thinks of them. Sydney This is my favorite haiku from kukai 3 as it reminds me how we see the goodness or the badness of a daughter through her mother. In my culture, when a guy wants to marry a girl, he usually sees how her mother behaves and decides either to marry her or not. I also see myself in my mother not only physically but also the way I behave. I do not need a mirror to see myself in my mother but I can even feel it. This haiku can be interpreted in a romantic way to express the trust between couple. Usually for a couple, the two partners start to behave in the same way. In this case, the haiku will be applied by the man. Rachel |

the snow Bayleigh Tabor (2) I thought that the visual image that you get from this one with the spacing was really neat. When you start off reading, you just picture snow as being this pretty thing, that people love, and then the last line hits you hard. I also saw the colors of the white snow and then the black and grey smoke from the car crash and then the red of the blood covering the snow from the person that was injured and maybe died in the crash. seeing clearly through Nathan Heppermann (6) My favorite part about this haiku is the spacing on the last line, with the word ‘sink’ actually sinking below the line. It gives it a really nice visually and further emphasizes the point and message of the haiku. I also like how it mentions the depths of the water, with are normally really dark and something that you can’t really see, but this comes after mentioning that you can see through the water ‘clearly’, making a play on the word clearly as a contrast to the murky depths. I hate that Quentin Key (4) This haiku is extremely relatable. When I first read this, I thought about all the times an annoying song has come on in the car, but I have sang along anyway. I think that everyone has this happen every once in a while, and reading this made me laugh a little. Sarah I like this haiku because it is so emotional. I imagine the person who hates the song as someone who is hurt or is missing his or her partner that they used to sing with. When they used to be together, they used to sing the song and feel the love but the person who is missed might be dead, travel or break up. When I left my hometown, I ask all my true friends to sent me their favorite songs since I am a music lover. Whenever I listen to the song they bring me nostalgia and sometimes. But I hate all the sing of my true friends who re not my true friend any more because it hurt to lose a true friend. True fiends are hard to find. Rachel |
test monday Sarah Hoadley (3) I like this haiku because it happened to most students. Whenever you want to study, there is always something else that attract you attention. I also like the way the author use the punctuations. Nowadays the common thing that distract student from studying is social media. This has happened to every student at least once. I imagine this distraction in real life. Whenever you want to do something productive, there is a situation, which many people might be distracted by. Rachel |
lost in thought Nathan Heppermann I can vision me driving home late after a long days of work and getting caught at a red light and with the light holding me at the intersection I begin to drift into a sleep. But when I come too from the honking horns I proceed home to shower and find my way to the bed. Quentin |

music plays Sydney Brangenberg (4) I picked this as one of my kukai favorites since it is simple yet romantic. I picture a young couple dancing for the first time. Also, most couples do have their song, so this made me smile. Sarah |
