With this Haiku, to me it does an excellent job of temporizing the moment of waking up and getting either your day started with a significant other, or spending a day off together. I picture a nice, cool day outside with some morning dew just sifting through the air. I picture the couple watching the sunrise and possibly eating breakfast as well, enjoying each other’s company. I like the word choices such as “smile” “sun” and “coffee” because they all seem to go together, when we think of them we think of happiness or some kind of lifted mood or energy. It all ties in together beautifully. Vance This haiku gives the impression that it is a routine for the two individuals to have their coffee together before their day begins. It is peace between the two and a smile is all that is needed. The sun coming up slowly is also special because the two of them start their day together before venturing out into the world. Tori I love this Haiku because I can picture a couple who have been married for many years and this is their morning ritual. I love the “slowly rises” which makes me think they take their time enjoying every moment together. The couple enjoy the simple things in life and don’t take this time together for granted for they know life is short. Kim |

This Haiku represents anyone who is going through a difficult situation their “dark valley” they can trust that God is with them. He sees everything we are going through and we are not alone. We can cry out to Him and he will help guide you through the dark valley. Kim |

This haiki above is one of my favorite one from the matching contest we did in class. This could be for two reasons. One you can discuss your relationship then you might have no internet connectio where you at then the phone starts breaking up. Or the other one is when you arguing on the phone and decided to break up with each other. Elijah |

I like this pair because it is almost like it’s telling a story. The first one I love the way it was written it makes it so much more dramatic. The second one makes me think of two people who were going to end it but something happens that made them remember what they loved about each other and decide to give it another try. So in the first hakui they discuss breaking up and then in the second she realizes she wants to make it work. Something brings them back together. Marissa |

I get the sense that a child is watching her parents fight for the millionth time in a row. The parents going back and forth trying to tear each other down not knowing the little ears listening, learning from what is happening in front of her. We lead by example and this could be how she will deal with her anger in the future, and is being shaped in this moment. Danni |
The first line “in the heat of the moment” gives me the sense that they regret throwing the glass and that once they had time to calm down realized they made a mistake. I feel like the broken glass covering the floor is a representation of their feelings. Once their feeling were out in the open, they could not take it back and it lay there for everyone to see in the most intimate way. Danni |

This Haiku is so interesting out of the bunch due to the careful use of clean, clear language to describe looking into aa significant other’s eyes. Words often have trouble depicting moments like these but in this case I think it works well. I think the words honestly depict a moment like that properly as the simplicity of the words keeps the reader from inferring too much of what is being talked about. It is bringing to light an instantaneous act of gazing into a lover’s eyes, without letting any detail of that moment leave. I especially liked how they said “some things simply are” as if this kind of simplicity is not always a given. Vance |

I thought these two haikus ended up pairing so nicely, it was very difficult for me to choose which one I liked best. They’re both so simply but beautifully written and their use of colors puts such a vivid picture in my head. In the first one, I see myself looking into someone’s eyes and just knowing that that’s what’s meant to be. There’s no questioning it and no fighting it, it’s just right. And the second one describes the moment a bride goes from staring at her pearl white heels and rose petaled path to looking up at the crowd and future husband. The ability to sum up such a big emotion or moment in so little words, which is what makes both of these haikus so incredible. I really love them both. Bailey |
