gentle flapping
of the butterfly
can’t reach the sun

a streak of black
pierces the deep blue
sheet

song bird
the road to hell
for the two of us

blizzard . . .
a family sits
sipping warm tea

sparks flying high
marshmallows blackened
the laughter

the dumpster
a fire
that lights the alleyway

out of breath . . .
the round lady
on the stairwell

familiar smooth cracks
my fingers
glide along the wall

gunshots . . .
streaks of smoke fill the air
a military wedding

midnight swim
warmed
with laughter
