Selected Haiku

by
Ron Bond

I have truly enjoyed taking this class. It has given me insight to the inner working of poetry that I would have never found on my own. I have always thought that poetry had to rhyme in order to be good. Haiku creates imagery that helps the reader create the story from their perspective while leaving the meaning to their interpretation. As I move forward in my professional, and personal life I believe that I will be more observant of my surroundings because of the awareness that haiku has taught me. People respond to each other based on surface issues and now I will be able to look beyond that to find the inner truth and peace that will keep me going in the right direction.

the sun rises
rays of sunshine
bring warm memories of youth

floating like a cloud
time has no relevance
life has new meaning

time passes
relationships pass
as the seasons change

early bedtime
staring at the ceiling till dawn
the old man has done his job

cow lying in a field
vultures overhead
darkness on the horizon

the wind blows
from the north
rain through the open roof

frogs croak loudly
a night of arguments
about the future

summer comes early
children play in the sunlight
as adults watch with envy
