Journey of Endless Possibilities

by
Cole Daniel

Before haiku became a part of my life, I had no interest in how three lines could evoke some emotion out of me. When I think of arts that potentially spring up memories: music, paintings, and comics is what comes to mind. Haiku and poetry were way off my radar; however, once I read my first haiku, I was a changed person. Memories were coming to mind that I haven’t thought of in years. It was emotions galore after every haiku I read from authors like Edith Shiffert, Aubrey Cox, Peggy Lyles, and so many more. The more haiku I read, the more appreciation I had for these writings. Each reading opened my eyes to how beautiful and unique each of our lives are. Through their writings, I got to follow the authors’ life story. They weren’t full-out telling me every little detail, but they did provide enough so I can build a beautiful scene and story as I close my eyes. Right then and there, I just became the co-creator of haiku with some of my favorite writers. You can’t get that anywhere else.

In my collection titled, Journey of Endless Possibilities, I hope you’re able to engage with haiku just as I have in the past. These aren’t just random words I thought would work together. This is my life story, and I welcome you with open arms for you to join my journey. Read aloud. Close your eyes. Build your story. Before you know it, you’ll be writing your own haiku.

Good morning Love
what a way
to start the day

cold winter morning
sweats and a blanket
by the fireplace

twenty pages
no words
due tomorrow

commercial break
10 push ups
sit down

eyes closed
cool breeze
wagging tail

flame from a candle
stands till
I'm calm

her ring falls
down the drain
it was meant to be

sappy love songs
no longer heard
after break-up

empty spit valve
sit up straight
practice again

glance at my calendar
all that's scheduled
is practice

headlights in the driveway
dogs barking at the windo
who's out there?

marble statues
of angels
         don't blink

I hold my breath
underwater
will you rescue me?

the royal guard
standing by the gate
no contact

clock strikes midnight
one more day
wtih you
