Love and Caffeine

When I was able to sit down and write haiku, it was like mediating for me. It’s honestly therapeutic. Reading and writing haiku for the last few weeks has helped me get more imaginative and connect more with my inner child. I feel like I typically look at things pretty straight forward. I tend to want to get straight to the point, and know the facts, but this class helped me look at things from a different side, and with more freedom. I believe socially, it made me more aware and appreciative of the small things that happen in my day-to-day life. Something that seems so simple or small in comparison to the large events in life can be so beautiful and moving.

surrounded by art
whispers all around
trying to read your mind

bags in hand
filled with clothes
once worn by other souls

voices echo
bouncing off the brick
where is mine

impatient knocking
unanswered
doors and questions

your love
keeping me energized
expresso eyes

stop on the stairwell
kisses on your head
afraid to let go

wet soggy crayon
one limb on the hangman
mom jeans are my kryptonite
