Global Haiku Tradition--Rengay Attempts 1, July 2016

sitting on the porch swing
husband and wife
talk about their future

pitter patter
little feet and lots of noise

new teeth
tugging at the door
ripping another screen

barking
she lets the dog out

days into weeks
weeks into months
years gone by

knock at the door
surprised by my children and grandchildren

Bethany, Sonja & Marshaya

a winter day
knocking on my door
my father

frigid temps
the furnace

cozy pajamas
hot chocolate and marshmallows
in front of the fire

we talk about
our memories
good and bad

father asks—
marriage . . . children
smile

phone rings . . .
father reads . . .
boyfriend

Bethany & Marshaya

crisp fall breeze
she pulls her hood over her head
in the park

corner of her eye
a strange man

dirty blue jeans and flannel
he holds out his hand
begging

turning away
void of empathy
cold like the wind

kids play on the merry-go-round
laughing

reminder of her child lost
tears falling
it was only a dream

Bethany family & friends

Magic

castle in view
we approach on the water
the world behind

anxious fingers graze
sun-kissed freckles

the opening number
watching in amazement
between all the heads

self-guided tour
of unexplored lands—
Frontier...Adventure...Tomorrow

behind the wheel, the race is on
at ten miles per hour

brown eyes sparkle
alongside the fireworks
dessert long forgotten

The Hunter

hair covered
drool and slobber all over me
a dog lover's paradise

a living mouse trap
the cat proves its worth

as morning rises
so does the worm
a bird has its prey

into the darkness
the owl's song is heard
minstrel of the night

king of the vast African wild
a lion watches all of its prey

unaware of its fate
the mouse does not know
the snake's even there

Renga with classmates

caffeinated energy
tamed by
late night memories

sitting on a swing
gazing at the stars

a tired old man
the snore
of man's best friend

if you only knew
what I've done

silly smile
tugging
at my heart strings

true love
smiling from above

Cristine & Jennifer & Michelle

Rengay writing family and friends

Four at the table
Forks scrape
Across the plates

Tummies growling
Wish we had more

Skinny turkey
Bottomless noodles
Eyes to big

One dog outside
One dog under foot

Dinner over
Pants undone
Flush!

Oops
. . . forgot to wash

Cristine & family

Family/Friend Rengay

alarms are beeping
my heart is racing
for what's in tow

heavy breathing awaiting—
the next big push

crowned as my king
sweet as a blueberry
he arrives

silent cries
he lays on his mom
newborn kisses

family rejoice
celebration of new life
baby boy

snuggled in blue
mommy loves you!

Jennifer Tohill

laying in my chair
sunday morning
Disruption

making it bigger
. . . than it has to be

cherished time
together
together always

time slows
for no
time leftover

tomorrows disruption
hopeful

afternoon chuckles
oh my
“thanks for all the fish”

Michelle Holsapple & family

Rengay with mother in law

Down by River
Tent is up

The moon is bright
Sky is clear
Hoots of owl

Pole is bobbing
Line is bending

Pull and snap
Fish gone
No supper

Pole is bobbing
Line is bending

Pull and snap

Rengay 2

full moon night
the howl of coyotes
I wake from a dream

in the woods
stars shine bright

glowing eyes
the wildlife stir
a new day begins

coffee is percolating
fire is hot

warm summer day
windows rolled down
home

dogs are yapping
mail has arrived

Darla Laymon & Amanda

Rengay 1 with friend:

Four wheelers
Mudding through the deep creeks
Boys filled with joy

Obstacles every where
To many places

Fallen trees
Honey suckle vines
Riding the steep hills

Can't wait to visit
Miles in the way
Pressures of life

Four wheelers rolling
Visit in sight

Secret thoughts, relaxed
From troubled thoughts
Of the past

Darla & friend

Tan-renga

conversations
life always changing
mom and daughter

growing up
no longer a little girl

Sonja Chargois & daughter

Are we there yet?

on the road
favorite song on the radio
cool air from the A/C

slowing to a halt
the car breaks down

hot sun on my back
furiously attempting to fix my car
I call triple A

on the road, again
oh no, gotta stop!
potty break . . .

road trip
playing “I SPY”

at our destination
alas, finally here
our vacation can BEGIN!
