A Start of Something New

by
Marshaya Sangster

My name is Marshaya Sangster-Lewis. To me haiku is a way to express past experiences and memories. It is my get away. My understanding of Haiku is a type of poetry written in a small amount of words that can mean so much. It can bring back memories or stories. You can read a haiku and it can be read as multiple perspectives. The haiku that I have chosen are past experiences that I went through in my life time. My favorite things to write about are my family, basketball, or teaching. The title that I chose was picked because before taking Global Haiku I had no idea what it was, but once I learned about haiku and how it can be used I learned to love it. I could be at work and doing something with my kids and I think of a haiku it is a fun way when you have some extra free time.

Spring breeze
beautiful flowers
Aaacchhhooooooo!

the ring
the vows
I do

heart to heart
side by side
you and I

creaks and squeaks
still rocks
my son to sleep

Sunday night
close your eyes
BEEP BEEP BEEP!

toddler whines
close your eyes
pretend you're asleep
