Wabi Matching Contest - 2 - Janaury 2015 • Millikin University

Wabi Haiku

dusty, worn cover
pages that taught him
what he taught me

stacks of old books
I browse listening
to my iPod

Dad's burnt
skillet
sears the meat to perfection

he brings to life
a tune
grandad's song

faded ringlets
on the table
the stories of our friends

asleep in the rocking chair,
dad snores
newspaper across the chest

the bark
of a long lost buddy
silence

gone fishing
two months
still gone

BOTTOM half champion

nuptial bliss

earrings of my mother
something borrowed

the diamond
glistens
as we sort through rubble

your touch
I miss
grabs teddy bear

built from oak
I wonder what's inside

the old
Chrysler
without air

he needs a magnified glass to see
but still
pumps her gas

cleaning out the basement
dad’s old baseball cap
covered in dust

the tear in mom's
house coat
warmth
