Let's Haiku

by
Briana Curtis

"Let's Haiku" is a collection of haikus created by myself throughout this course. This collection will touch on a number of topics, making you feel different things. Haiku is not the typical 5-7- 5 syllable structure. Haiku can have one line or three to four lines. These sentence fragments can have such a larger meaning. Haiku is expressing yourself using fragments, nature, and tapping into your inner voice and poet. Hope you enjoy what I have put together. Happy reading!

do you love me
how much
ask Jesus

calm starry night
breath taking
his kiss

her hair defies gravity
her melanin illuminating
she is
A Strong Black Queen

Float like a butterfly
Sting like a bee
The World's Greatest
a moment of silence

20 pounds
15 pounds
. . . maybe I should start with 5
January 1st

she giggles
at her phone
she says he's different

my curls are beautiful
going in every direction
a mind of its own

in a room full of people
I remain
unseen

the tear in mom's
house coat
warmth

the diamond
glistens
we sort through rubble

Hear us roar!
we FIGHT for
justice
