Haiku Collection

by
Teresa Brase

In the summer of 2016, I took the global haiku traditions class. I wasn't really sure about what I would think about this class. A friend of mine recommended this class to me. I ended up really falling in love with haiku. I love how you are free to express whatever emotion or thought that comes to mind.

Therefore, when you are reading my collection of haiku for this class, I hope you feel the emotions that I felt when I was writing this haiku. I hope some of them make you laugh and give a gentle feeling. At the same time, I hope some of my haiku make you sad and that you think about them deeply. I hope you will come to learn a little bit about more about me. I hope that you remember the little things in from my poem because the little things are what make life and haiku great.

the dinosaurs roam the yard
laying their eggs
that have turned to rocks

jumping so high I can touch the sky
the rusty metal creaks
back down to earth

my voice
echos silently
lost in stars

kittens
pitter patting
on you

stepping on
dog pop
karma

lost in the woods
giggling children
lead the way

eating alone
good food
still hungry

spring love
blooming flowers
drought

gently
snow piling
up

we peer into
the abyss
eyes look back
