Through the Woods I Go

by
Tives Gardner

These are a collection of poems that I have recently chosen to be a part of my booklet. These poems are basically describing who I am as a person. They show happy times they show depressing times but overcoming the odds is what I'm about. I am very happy person where I feel like I have to be because of all of the blessings that have been postpone on me. I am very spiritual person who believe in a higher power and I am very grateful for the opportunity I have. By graduating and giving back to my community back home I just want to show young adults that came up from the same situations I did to see that there is a chance and better alternatives for ways out.

I think when making a haiku is all about the feeling you receive from a prior memory or an experience that you once had. I feel like most of haiku comes from just that and it makes the poem have more feeling and more emotion in them.

the smell of ham
and untouched
wrapping paper

as I sit at the Prince
concert
I hear the drops

dirty wonder bread
old hot dog water
it touched my soul

the wind is sharp
her passion was noticed
I found someone else

my heart is full of hate
it's not a black or white issue
it's beyond that

Will this be the day?
the day I find myself
maybe tomorrow

I am not the one
it was
Him

in order to be a man
you must
stand on your own

square mirror frame
the boy is trapped
in the four corners

my father was never there
yea you have yours I see
must be nice
