endless rain Matthew Marrero I thought this haiku was beautiful. I loved the imagery and how the words were arranged. I thought it painted a great picture. I felt this haiku allowed me to interpret it my own way but also told such a beautiful story. Karina |

across the room Lena Rotramel I always feel like I'm being bias when I like a Haiku strictly because it fits my life but that is how I feel about this one. My husband and I always do laundry together and typically we fold across from each other so I'm watching him as he watches me. I like the idea of a man folding his own socks because we know traditional roles in a relationship leads to the woman doing house work. Kieva This simpleness of this poem is what makes it great. As I read the haiku the first time, I thought, how can someone folding socks make someone’s heart soar, but then I thought, if someone is deeply in love, their heart can melt from watching someone brush their teeth. After realizing that, I enjoyed this haiku even more. Jessica |

first love Kiava Plato This haiku was so creative. It left plenty of room for imagination and I enjoyed making up in my head what I thought it meant. I also thought the word choice was great and it made this haiku so different from everyone else’s. Karina |
yes Kiava Plato I love this haiku because it tells a story in so few words. It is up to us to interpret it in our own way, and I feel like it can take on a personal meaning for each person based on their past experiences. It really perfectly captures the unsureness that people feel so often when becoming romantically involved with another person—we often jump into things and only afterwards to we realize that maybe we moved too quickly. high school breakup Karmina Gant I like this haiku a lot, because the second line seems so final—“I will never take him back”, but then the third line comes in with “unless he changes”. Although often people get taken advantage of in this way in relationships, I think it is a beautiful statement on how people are willing to make changes and sacrifices for love—especially at the young age when we are somewhat naïve. I think it is a wonderful thing to be forgiving and to give people another chance, but as we grow older this mindset is somewhat funny because we learn that more often than not, people do not like to change. you are my almost, Matthew Marrero This is such a beautiful Haiku, I'm not sure if everyone can relate but most people can attest to having their heart-broken or loving someone who didn't love you back. It almost puts me on the mind of a crush. I really want you and I almost had you but you don't like me the way I like you or maybe something got in the way. Kieva The word play of this haiku was beautiful. I pictured this as someone thinking about a special someone who had the potential of being in their life, but to that other person they were not as important. There are a lot of cases where someone loves another person who does not love them the same, and that makes this haiku even more relatable to its readers. Jessica |
