twirling her hair

the feeling
of acceptance

wet sidewalk
muddy garden
crocs

first thing first
switch car from AC
to heat. add seat warmers

winds whistles—
trees dance and
sprinkle me

growing grass
blooming oaks
Achoo!

toss and turn
covers on
or covers off?

hiding behind
this screen
like everyone else

stained glass
window
no thru traffic

hostas fill
the landscaping
American flags

little boy
picks dandelions
riding lawn mower

thoughts so loud
you
are my quiet place

wrong move
wrong step —
can I do anything right?

a walk in the woods
he starts to itch
poison ivy

he rides his bike
past the houses
the open road

first day
at a new school
will I make friends?

anxiety—
the buzzing bees
inside my chest

1 mile walk
there and back
exhausted

right foot, left foot
courage to
look in the mirror

13-hour drive
getting drowsy
did I leave the milk out

the inevitable death.
at night she whispers,
“The Lord I Pray My Soul To Keep”

climbing the hill
rocky path to the sunset
definitely worth it

car note
responsibilities

closed blinds
not a person in sight
ghost town

family together
for Memorial Day weekend
those of us who remain

leaky oil
squeaky brakes
things will get better

he walks along
a wooded path
no end in sight

long hair
down to her waist
has turned grey

I call them, Butterflies
scattered
on this body

cars passing
no cross walk
hurry

dead bird
on the sidewalk
dogwood tree

freckles on
her face
or age spots?

yellow shirt
purple shorts
not a care in the world
