With 3 children and a husband, the quiet moments that come to mind are those in which I taken a day off work during the school year. The kids are at school and my husband is at work. I'm home alone. Even though I know where everyone is, it's a wonderful feeling knowing I've got the next few hours to myself to do as I please. Just as I plan my day and begin doing what I want to do, the day is over. And I realize just how precious alone time really is, yet happy to see everyone again.

Saturday's my mom and grandmother would fix my siblings and I pancakes, bacon, sausage, and heated syrup for dinner. We thought this was a great treat. It usually happened during the time of the month when money was low and there weren't very many groceries in the house for dinner. We children didn't realize this at that time; we just thought we were getting a special treat as we begin to smell the pancakes, bacon and sausage cooking. Mom would pour the warm syrup over our pancakes and we'd eat till we were full.

It is first light in the mountains. Everything is wet with the morning dew. We set out to locate elk in the upper meadows. As we hike up the trail, we encounter a mule deer doe and her fawn. She is close enough count her eye lashes before she bolts off into the forest with her young.

It is 30 minutes before shooting time in the blind. It is our first morning out. The decoys are set and the marsh is still, not a ripple in the water anywhere. The guide kicks back with a cup of coffee and begins telling about the good hunt the day before. The story concluded with the group limiting out before noon.

I walk my dog a couple times a week. But on the first warm spring day we try to go to the river. Where Katie can hunt and swim as she pleases. I simply enjoy watch her having fun.

A friend of mine had an old dog named Megan, who loved to hunt. She was a well-trained lab. Who in her later years would lye on the floor and dream. her tail would wag and then freeze as it did when she had found a bird. I t was obvious that she was dreaming about hunting.

When I go home (Louisiana) for vacation or passing through town while on business. My step mother has a plate of warm red beans and rice and/or gumbo. I enjoy my visits home, especially for the food.

We try to take our two boys to the beach every year because they enjoy it the most. New Smyrna beach is their favorite. The white sands at low tide gives the boys an opportunity to play in the beautiful sun and sand. The water goes forever and I think that is what excites them the most.

My father-in-law passed away shortly after my oldest boy turned 1 year old. He was the first boy in the family and my father-in-law just ate it up. The amount of and type of toys my son received from his grandfather was proof that he finally had a boy.

We took our boys and niece to the St. Louis zoo the weekend we visited my sister-in-law who was in a St. Louis hospital. She was having a cancerous tumor removed from her liver. My niece who is 14 wanted to go to the zoo to get out of the hospital. It was a very hot summer day and the kids were excited about being there. This one particular animal the Somalian wild ass caught their attention. They thought the sign had a bad word in it. We had to explain to them that words have different meaning.
