Selected Haiku
by

Becky Buchanan

I am an amateur haiku poet. My first haiku poetry class was taken in late summer of 2003. I was immediately drawn into the beauty of haiku by the simplicity of this ancient Japanese art form.

I hope to continue writing haiku about love and family.

I hope that people take a few moments out of their busy and hectic lives to read my haiku and will remember happy and joyous times in their lives as well.

I would like to thank my professor, Dr. Randy Brooks, and my classmates from my original haiku class. Special thanks to Kim Tish for collaborating on rengay and being my most helpful critic. I must also thank my husband, Jerry, and my daughter, Allie, for their continued love and support.

thunder and lightning
pounding raindrops
first love

after the fireworks
God's show
of distant lightning

child sleeping
faint night light glow
all is forgiven

attic window
full moon
restless steps

raindrops pummeling
the garden path
holding each other

crackling fire glows
snow falling gently
knitting needles click

     Magical Day

dress up clothes
giggling girls
summer vacation

young friends
carefree joy

growling stomachs
peanut butter and jelly
milk mustaches

setting sun in distant sky
chirping crickets

star filled night
full moon
distant thunder rumbles

tooth under pillow
twinkling fairies dance around
