Selected Haiku

by
Kara Nihiser

Well first of all let me say that when I started this class I knew very little about haiku. I have really enjoyed the class and learning how to write my own haiku. I have learned that haiku is learning to concentrate on understanding the meaning to a poem. Haiku are about everyday experiences. Haiku allows expressing one’s true feelings. Haiku poems are written in the present tense to convey an image or moment. Haiku poets also use concrete images to create an atmosphere. I have really enjoyed this class. Dr. Brooks was great and helped me understand how to write haiku. These in the collection are just a few of my haiku. I hope you enjoy them as I have.
