My Favorite Haiku

handsome at first sight
nice smell, beautiful eyes
then, he speaks

I like this one of my haiku the best because I think everyone can relate to it. There have been many times I have met attractive people and think that they are lucky to have their looks. Many times, a large ego tends to go with good looks. I mainly like this one because I thought it was funny.

cool summer breeze
outside on swing
feeling of completeness

This haiku gives me a good feeling. If I close my eyes, I can picture summer at my house, sitting on my swing relaxing. That’s one of my favorite things to do to unwind after work.

august heat
backyard pool
belly flop!

This reminds me of summertime watching my 8 year old trying to learn how to dive into our backyard pool. She just learned how to swim a couple of summers ago, so now she is focusing on becoming a professional diver. I could spend all day just watching her trying so hard. This is a pleasant memory and something I look forward to every time spring hits.

Rengay

jewelry box
holding the memory                RM
he gave her

in the drawer                        HW
the letter has yellowed

she begins to cry                   RM
looking up into the mirror,
first love letter

torn HW
from the years,
true love

drawn on the front,                RM
a heart of forever

her tears dry                        HW
she joins him,
in her memory

a rengay by Heather Walston, and Rita Marlow

I like this rengay mainly because my daughter and I had so much fun composing it. My daughter said she was referring to a love story she had just finished reading, and that’s where she came up with her part of the rengay. I just kind of flowed with it
