Not Very Good Haiku

by
Alexis King

I named my book of haiku this because I am not much of a haiku poet. I have learned in this class though, that you do not have to be the best poet in the world to write haiku. This class taught me the importance of the pause in writing haiku. I also found out how much fun it can be reading haiku. Although, I still do not feel that writing haiku is my strong suite, I have put together a collection of haiku that I like best. I find that when I write haiku it is best to write about experiences I have had in my life. I feel that my haiku are pretty direct and not very abstract. The main thing I have learned is that haiku can be fun, and a good way to express your self. I hope you enjoy my haiku.

warm spring day
in the woods
he builds her a fort

fall
Sunday football
I root for his team

old picture frame
glass broken
her face smiles up at me

sunset
walk along the beach
bug bites

end of plank
look at the horizon
take a step

his cold nose
on my cheek
puppy love

eyes wide
ears perked up
he chases the birds

spring
mud on my rug
I yell at my husband
