Selected Haiku

I have enjoyed reading many of the haiku written by a variety of authors, but the haiku that had the greatest impact on me were those that immediately stirred my senses, touched a deep emotion inside me, or instantly brought a wonderful image to mind. Many of the haiku I have written stem from treasured childhood memories or were centered around special events that have occurred in the life of my family. In addition, I have also tried to write haikus dealing with the changing seasons of life, hoping the reader will be able to go on a journey in his mind as he reads each haiku.
Many of my haiku are centered on light-hearted moments and will hopefully leave the reader feeling encouraged and uplifted. I have also written a few haikus that deal with a sad memory, such as the loss of my father at an early age or remembering my grandmother at her graveside. In writing those haiku, I tried to convey the sense of loss and sadness that I experienced at that period of time in my life, hoping the reader will be able to sense the emotion I was trying to portray.
I believe if a haiku touches the reader’s senses or allows the reader to see a story unfold, then you have written a great haiku. I have enjoyed trying to express either a fond memory that the reader can relate to, or describe a detailed event that the reader can easily imagine in his mind, and hopefully allow them to remember one of his own. |
