Past, Present, and Future
Selected Haiku

by
Connie Volpe

My personal haiku collection is filled with every emotion. There are haiku that represent painful memories from my past, where I am now in my life, and what my expectations are for the years to come. As you read them, I hope each haiku takes you to a special place and helps you reflect on your past, present, and future.

the little red bike
rusty and scratched
just like new

dreamy thoughts
floating on the lake
the dock from afar

pulling out of the driveway
children crying
goodbye, Daddy

a face in the crowd
he finally calls
love at last

Failing

I stare at the screen
blankness;
words will not come

deadline is tomorrow
failing

dialysis machine beeps
as the IV
snakes down my arm

hope drains
another donor rejected

mysterious call
he leaves again
midnight rendezvous

finally over
peace at last

motorcycle haiku

no helmet
no worries
let's go riding

time for a ride
my hair tied back
the wind hits my face

up at sunrise
just us
and the open road

headed to Kentucky
no schedule
our motorcycle glides

Sunday afternoon ride
the fresh air
gives me peace

cruising down the road
the colors so intense
the trees just a touch away

honey, let's go
hop on the bike
no destination in mind

what a weekend
me, him and our Harley
nothing else matters

I used to be scared
now I feel safe
leaning into him

I long to go
down the road
on our Harley
