The Art of Writing Haiku

To me, when writing Haiku poetry, you should keep in mind the simplicity of haiku. It is important to let the reader finish the story with their own memory and imagination. Also, the use of descriptive words is important. You want the reader to get a sense of the world around them as they enter poem. Most off all, I think the truly important rule to writing is to have fun.

floating around in circles
the water takes the sting
from the summer sun

last one on the bus
the longest last day
of the school year

planting flowers with grandma
feeling the heat of the sun
tower over us

the chipped plate
from great-grandpa’s mantle
on my mantle

How can I resist
