Rengay Attempts

Global Haiku Tradition

Rengay Attempts 1, July 2013

untitled

putting on skis
maybe this time
I'll get up

Sun is Shining
Hope is in the Air

The boat starts
with a roar
wind in my hair

Standing tall
Holding on tight

Right as I get up
I see the wave

Coming for me
Closing my eyes
I hope I still stand

untitled

fireworks show
I sit on a blanket
with him . . .

tightly holding hands
looking into the sky

butterflies in my stomach
looking for the words . . .
she said yes

the day has come
to walk down the aisle

church bells ring
people whispering
camera flashing lights

beating the sunrise
arriving beachside

The Love of Retirement

eastern skies
the coast
I love so much

clear water
clear air

chilled ocean waves
the electric tingling
from a starfish

40 pound tess
the lion-fish
are flying

exploring new locations
the love of being free

the life of relaxation
to love to     live
to laugh

Early Morning Anticipation

early morning
smelling the aroma
of my mom's breakfast

the sweet smell
of love

sizzling and popping
are the sounds
of perfection

the anticipation
of the fried wonderland

percussion sounds
of metal to porcelain
reverberates through the room

how my body vibrates
from the joyous sound.

Brave Hearts

few precious moments
she paints
her nails

his favorite color
scarlet red

fighting for freedom
far from home
loneliness calls

under the same
moonlit sky

whispered dreams
across the miles
it won’t be long

distant hearts
together as one

Goosebumps

lying in the dark
a motion light
illuminates outside

dog ears rise
eyes open wide

a shadow moves
outside the door
heart racing

the light fades
darkness deepens
fear blinds

the handle turns
a voice cries out

jolted awake
beaded with sweat
the dog snores

The Walk

dusk is near
on a cool summer evening
we go for a walk

children play in their yard
while dads work

further we go
shorter the steps
a park bench

favorite show starts soon
we turn around

she fades in the distance—
his sore knees
hold him back

she meets with him again
at home

Day's End

Sleepless Nights
toss and turn
tears overflow

morning takes away the pain
desire to reunite still appears

no more laughter
whispers no more
discussions has cease

coffee table with two mugs
the past reappears

tears on the pillow
chills overtakes body
never forgotten love

memories are showcasing
the feeling of warmth

The Field

In the field she walks
he loves me
he loves me not

She picks wild flowers
humming a romantic tune

As the sun glistens
her face glows
with thoughts of him

The wind blows in the field
the rains begin to cry
the roses are dead

Running through the brush
the tears flowed like old memories

The sky clears
the fat lady sings
He loves me not?

beach day

Summer sun over
waves splashing
beach day

sandy toes
tired kids

three lounge chairs
beneath a blue umbrella
the mothers chatter

errant beach ball
headed their way
umbrella down

volleyball court
filled with laughter

almost sunset
say our last goodbyes
beach day over

Soaking

summer rains
two rockers still creak
on the damp porch

tangled blue hair
no reason to straighten

hair clip gone
her shoes come off
to dance in the rain

waiting with a towel
mother smiles

a break in the clouds
with rain’s tempo slowing
it’s been seven years

my greying eyes
still see her young

Working Night

fishnet tights and
lime green heels
how many tonight?

someone else chose
red sheets

no chocolates
just condoms
Valentine’s day

is he an ass
or boob man

he turns left
and peels out
i’ll never know

lean in the next car
fuck me

Bedtime

ready for bed
weary eyes blinking
cover up

whoops—
not alone

wag-tail fur ball
needs some cuddle time
good night kisses

curled in a ball
ten pounds of comfort
drifting off . . .

goodnight prayer
filled with thanks

slowly falling asleep
quickly say "Amen"
. . . z z z . . .

Adrenaline

summer heat
the track watered and muddy
trailer unloaded

safety clothing required
how fast is fast enough?

eyeing the competition
each fastener checked and rechecked
pretty red car waiting . . . to . take . flight . . .

I smell fuel and lubricants – expectations are high
flip the switch, beast comes to life!
noise becomes silence – caution cast aside

accelerator to the floor
fear cannot exist

the rush consumes, breathing is rapid
too quickly it’s over . . . for now
reflection begins-discussions and memories!

Hallowed Eve

October skies
leaves fall from the great oak
as if they were rain

ghosts hang from bare branches
pumpkins leer from the porch

children running through yards
they sit
stoking their fire

Watchful parents
enjoy the sound of laughter
excitement crackles in the air

the appearance of the full hunter's moon
clears the street of witches, ghouls, and goblins

children admiring their sweet bounty
a black cat strolls the night
chilling wind blows - spirits alight

The Guider

guiding my journey
she utters
this way not this way

torch light beckons to follow
strength and compassion

weakness ignorance
darkness enters journey
encouragement new path

how to live
grace success gratitude

bitterness envy
wasted gifts
emptiness of self-will

lessons life love
darkness and light

Winters Stealth

an early winter
the lazy bird sings
no song

trees cloaked in white
an undisturbed wonderland lives

an unprepared father shoveling fast
as his children listen to the news anchor say…
snowday

now bundled up
from head to toe
the snow no longer sits undisturbed

snowmen and angles
fill the once blank canvas

day became night
his children now asleep
the bird is still mute

The Future

frozen walks
by the duck pond
never happier

looking at the crisp water
thinking about the future

the day
she wanders
with him

ducks cross their path
brilliant sun
on pavement

snow melts
spring tells of the hereafter

the future
lucid
warm

A single mother's prayer

hot sand
between my toes
gentle salty breeze

Relaxing sun
No worries

waves kissing the sand
tranquil thoughts
fill my mind

negative drama
awaits me

guide me through
these trying times
they need me

untitled

four generations
sitting by the fireplace
story time

early morning piter-pater
crackling warm fire

smell of breakfast cooking
young voices chattering
presents glistening

messy living room
boxes to burn

pots and pans cling and clatter
sweet potato pie
smoke alarms alerting

snowy night
tucked in tight

untitled

soul music
I eloquently speak truth
with no agenda

voices cry to be heard
without restraint

when the music stops
there is nothing for dancing
rhthym remains

instrumentals
the jazz player needs your ear

genres connect
spirits are individual
but inseparable

soul music
brings joy to all who listen

untitled

the call goes out
the head has a question
for the family

loud noise
the baby trembles in his sleep

sounds like thunder
the oldest leaves the room
and never returns

clashing cymbals
they all play different beats

the silences
as everyone leaves the room
is golden

tea kettle whistle
bring warm, soothing goodness

Reunion Wrinkles

The food smells fill the air
People remember names
All T-shirts the same

We reminisce of our past
With wrinkles across the face

. . . in her closet
She sees an old dress
Fear overwhelms her

Kids giggle run and play
No worries with mom
A grandma love

Classy small and petite
Clothes freshly creased

Grandparent's day
Yes they made it
Wrinkles at the reunion

Fields

In the field she walks
He loves me
He loves me not

She picks wild flowers
Humming a romantic tune

As the sun glistens
Her Face glows
With thoughts of him

The wind blows in the field
The rains began to cry
The roses are dead

Running through the brush
The tears flow like old memories

The skys clear
The fat lady sing
He loves me not

Stress

empty boxes
world to fit
Can I help?

midnight moon
thought of trouble

clocks ticks fast
stomach grumbles
run for Tacos

old blanket finds
the way  to bed

landlord knocks
look out for inspection
the chaos of move

saying goodbye
friends and family await
