looking
at my youth
in granddaughter's face
same eyes
same heart

looking
at my youth
in my granddaughter's face
her smile, her laugh
it belongs to me

quick visit
blue mask on
a perfect baby boy
wraps his hand around my finger
and vice versa

quick visit
blue mask on
a perfect baby boy
family's newest addition
makes their world complete

quick visit
blue mask on
a perfect baby boy
tiny little fingers
I'll never let go

a dark green
Park bench
homeless
against a warehouse wall
fleeing the bitter cold

a dark green
park bench
homeless
alone . . . starving
his tears

football grunts
women's chatter. . .
saying grace
wonderful food
and family

football grunts
women's chatter . . .
saying grace
memories made and
not forgotten

football grunts
women's chatter . . .
saying grace
another day
of family embrace

water ripples
sand between my toes
. . . laughter
the smell of campfire
and the warmth of a summer breaze

water ripples
between my toes
. . . laughter
a backward glance
footprints left behind

I change . . .
The F's to B's
Before my mother sees
No T.V. for a week
Bad choices

I change . . .
The F's to B's
before my mother sees
later in life
the consequences appear

I change . . .
The F's to B's
before my mother sees
the red pen does not match
and now I have a red patch

wind blows hair
tears flow as
tail lights disappear
memories linger
visit over

wind blows hair
tears flow as
tail lights disappear
dirt road
dust flying . . .

wind blows hair
tears flow as
tail lights disappear
dream becomes reality
in just a few more years
