Selected Haiku

I enrolled in global haiku to fulfill a global studies requirement for my degree. I really had no background in haiku, nor much interest in the subject. After taking this course I find myself writing haiku all the time. I just get inspired. They are short and they have a lot of meaning to them. I find myself writing traditional 3 line haiku. I take my inspiration for my haiku from life experiences. My haiku are generally light hearted and have an element of irony or sarcasm to them, due to my personality. I also found enjoyment from writing rengay with my husband and I think he did too. I may never be recognized as a great haiku poet, but I do enjoy the art of it, and will continue to write even after my coursework is finished.

calm lake water
late in the day
not a bite

reunion
with an old friend
my favorite sweater

in the garage
a skeleton
someday my dream car

cold autumn morning
too soon
to light the furnace

the coin
scratches the card
loser

The End . . . of a long day

hard day
soft recliner
where is the remote?

nothing is on
take a nap instead

daydreaming
no one to bother me
except myself

alone
feeling empty
in darkness

reaching a depth
not yet discovered

stumbling in the dark
eyes glare
