tire swing hanging Missy Hampton In this haiku I was able to get the best visual picture. I can picture a big old farm house with a big front porch. In front of the porch is a big oak tree and on a large branch hangs the tire swing. I can picture a bean field with the sun shining as it sets. The sun is still very warm, that the swinging on the tire would cool you down and be very relaxing. I can also see some of the family sitting on the porch. Louis |

smell of rain Amy Eller When I think about this haiku I picture a rainy dreary day. The farmers are ready to get into their fields but they can’t. The fields are to wet and the rain just won’t stop. The combines just sit out along the fields. There is nothing the farmers can do but wait the storm out. Kristen |

first night together Ashley Kaufman I enjoyed reading this haiku it makes me think of a young couple who like each other. They stay up all night and talk about whom they are and their interests. I remember when I first met my husband and we talked all night. It felt like we could not get enough of each other. This haiku gives me the imagery of a warm summer evening where two people are enjoying each other’s company. It is the beginning of a relationship. Chelsea |

warm evening Ashley Moore I love this one. I love how it takes me to a tee-ball game of a young boy. An entire family sitting in lawn chairs cheering on their young son, grandson, younger brother, nephew, or cousin. I see 7 or 8 family members having a good time while watching their youngest family member kick butt at Tee ball. Kevin This Haiku makes me think of high school football games at the end of the season. I was a cheerleader so they were especially fun for me. I can remember going when I was in Jr. High and walking around, hanging out with friends, and drinking hot chocolate. When I got to High School and started cheering for the games it became so much better. I was front row for the games and got a great view of the fans. I miss these days so much. You could smell the leaves and the wind was always blowing just slightly. The sound of the band, the crowd, the whistles, the announcer, and of course the cheerleaders is something that I will have in my head forever. Ashley K.

an autumn chill creeps Jennifer Huckstep I love this haiku, it reminds me of those cold Friday nights when the whole town packed into the Mattoon High School’s football stadium. People cheered with gloves and coats on while the team charged down the field. It was a social gathering of friends, friends’ parents, family, and lots of children. It was the good times. Reading this Haiku, I can even smell the autumn air and hear the crunch of leaves at my feet. Meredith I really like this because it reminds me of high school. I loved football season and being outside in hoodies with all of my friends on the bleachers packed under our ‘football blankets’. This is one of the things that everyone remembers from high school is football season, especially the small town schools. These schools close down every local store and pack their entire town into a football game to support the local high school. Ashley Moore |
