MEMORIES REMAIN

by
Amanda Chappell

a year I will never get back
taken by cancer
SURVIVOR

jumping from a plane
into the clouds
silent horizon

sitting in class
fireworks boom
can't see shit

peanut butter
small grey mouse
—SNAP

a snowstorm
the dog disappears
into a drift

Halloween night
a visit to the ER
dressed as Marilyn Monroe

falling acorns
dropping from the tree
hazard zone

scars will fade
only memories remain
just takes time

three telephone poles
that I can see
foggy

time to get up
a kiss good morning
from the dog

locks changed
and wiring checked
dad's "I love you"

bell doesn't ring
still holds memories
of you
