Close your eyes.
Take a breath.
Read slowly.

Hello and thanks for reading. My name is Katjia Eisele. I am currently a student at Millikin University and taking the course Global Haiku. One of the first things I learned when reading haikus were to, close your eyes, take a breath and read slowly. This saying really helped me take my time when reading haikus. I decide to name my book of poems this because I would like you to do the same. In this collection I have picked out a few of my favorite haikus I have written. I picked these haikus because they evoked feelings and images. I believe haikus are poems that evoke an image or feeling to the reader. I hope you enjoy reading them!

the faint sound
of Christmas carols
gentle fall of snow
we patiently wait
for our doorbell to ring

laying in bed with the sound of rain
my head against the pillow
hopes for tomorrow

the quieting down
of a cold October night
we blow out the candle
inside our pumpkin of fright

shoveling the snow
a neighbor appears
to lend a hand

an off key lullaby
from a loving mother
still perfect to me

this old rotten bench
the good memories we've shared
year after year

in my favorite grey sweater
a small hole
that my thumb fits perfectly

bikers wiz by
leaves rustle in the wind
so much to hear
but I only hear
your voice
