Global Haiku Kukai 2—Seasons

Global Haiku Tradition--Haiku Attempts 2, Summer 2004

October moon
the pumpkin on the porch
half-filled with candy

Carroll C. Keller (7)

snowflakes falling
marshmallows roasting
on the fire

sand on my feet
wet towel on the chair
falls to the floor

My hair
Still smells of
Burnt leaves

No socks
No shoes
No bedtime

stormy night
a small child's
tap on the arm

Jill Patterson (2)

warm spring day
RECESS!
—last one picked

Jill Patterson (2)

cool summer night
a family laughs
as one

grandpa’s worn chair
still warm from the sun
sits lonely

Jill Patterson (8)

moonlight
on the snow
frosty puffs of breath

warm summer sun
cool ocean water
sand between my toes

distracted by fireworks—
the mosquito savors his
Sunday night buffet

Melanie Millikin (6)

too close to the decorated tree
my son’s cheek
sports a green glow

Melanie Millikin (5)

splashing of pool water
a child's laughter
wet towels

gentle falling snow
freshly covering
small footprints

shell by shell
sea salt in the air
becoming one with the ocean

basket lined with gingham print
lemonade and
a blanket to sit

shiny paper, ribbons galore
little green tree
here once more

hot summer night
we skinny dip
the fish are hungry too

Laura Tucker (5)

hot summer night
thunder rolls
laughter on the back porch

shimmery moon
a hot passion night
hum!

needles all around
pine fills the air
Christmas stitches

fresh cut grass
green on my toes
sweating

we meet
under the mistletoe
underwear?
ho ho ho

snow drift
this car won't budge
start diggin'

May-love-honor
I do! I do!
two rings on a finger

sun beating down
many miles to go
until the next gas station

Laura Tucker (2)

fresh cut fairways
soybeans cooking
favorite golf course

lawnchairs everywhere
sprays of color
oohs and ahhs echo

dirt highways call
ants—waiting
pass the salad

a hazy steam bath
buzzing around the ears
slap on the neck

hands used as silencers
lights explode in the sky
no boom, only aaaahs

leaves rustle and fall
leaving behind
a naked statue

the last leaf
wind has blown
it underneath my feet

carry out?
no menus on a
rainy day

under the snow
a secret
remains hidden

Iris Lewis-Beasley (8)

leaves cupped for rain
a long wait
the birds are hoarse

fresh cut lawn
sweat on my brow
he cuts the grass

snow blanket
shaken over the land
on the first try

leaves grasping the sun
but the grass is content
to be my bed

hot summer day
detassling corn
storm rolls in

Bridget Lamb (6)

water skier jumps the wave
leans too far
unexpected rolls

pellucid white pimpernel
unmovable
shut off

Spring's glass snake heart
slithers away
to a fortress

beyond the green horizon
an ancient bell is tolling
summer bride

a laden picnic table
grab your partner
ants square dancing

beneath
the mistletoe—
a gallant proposal

back from shopping
pens, pencils, paper
ready for the first day of school

in the crisp air—
excitement
a sack full of candy

in the back of the truck
giggling
faces full of hay

Megs Lewis (7)

the sun on my face
the wind through my hair
the open line

waiting for the sun
warmth refreshing
past faults forgiven

the laughter
of children
fading

a wish
blowing in the wind
dandelion seeds

Angie McCammack (5)

a young girl
living at home
the butterfly flies away

a deep breath
the light scent
of calla lilies

feet burning
in the sand
the wave crashes

a summer eve
together we laugh—
on the swing

first flower blooms
sweet baby's breath—
new life

wooden fence
red robin perched
rain washes what he left behind

Misty Riley (5)

hot summer day
a ball flies by
the smell of hot dogs

Nila Vinson

at the park
the softball flies through the air
on a hot summer evening

early dusk
    descending
        through
     l a c e c u r t a i n s
silhouette of a day

ball one
then two . . .
now three . . .
I remove my hat and scarf
