Selected Haiku
by

Nila Vinson

My collection of haiku is from what I observed in every day life. Reading haiku has made much more aware of my surrounding, so I enjoy writing about the things that once went unnoticed by me. Taking Dr. Brook’s haiku class is my first introduction to haiku, and I know I will continue to read the many different styles of haiku.

her faded dress
her tattered shoes
still the laughter

on a cloudy summer day
walking no more
he rolls down the sidewalk

warm and fuzzy
a wagging tail
full of love

six playful little bodies
kisses and licks
which do I choose?

late in the evening
a jovial man
still teaching

a hot summer day
the splashing of waves
a sandy beach

salt upon my tongue
all alone

tracks in the sand
a four by four
an unseen badge

tired of running
no place to hide
freedom is distant

stillness in the air
an unexpected visitor

forgive me
I was foolish
caged once more
