Essay on Alexis Rotella

Pieces of Me
Selected Haiku
by

Robin Sidlo

Most of the haiku in this collection come directly from my life experiences. I want to dedicate my collection to my son, Hayden. I also would like to thank my mother and grandparents for everything they do for me. Without them, I would not be able to follow the path that I have chosen. Thanks!

on the water
a twin—
rippling away

jaded evening sky
SILENCE—
pierced by a freight train

on the floor
broken glass
another argument

in the fireplace
b u r n i n g…
wedding photos

rocking…
holding my son
silent love

circle of light
in the sky
following me home

a winding path
I’m not alone

through a forest
dark and deep
leaves falling at my feet

Run, Run, Run
through a cold stream
a short cut home

lights ahead barely seen
almost home

footsteps echo all around
shadows move
hot breath on my neck

Nila Vinson & Robin Sidlo

In the woods,
hushed sounds
quiet all around

sunlight peeking through
lighting the trail

a bird in a tree
calling…
a second one comes.

footsteps from behind
we turn to look

from around a bend
a park ranger—
checking the trail

we continue…
through the trees

a squirrel
chased—
by another

a noise in the distance…
following the sound

nearing the clearing
the woods
getting brighter

behind the last tree
the lake
