Iron River Haiku

Spring Fever Renga

Nature's Beauty
by

Tony Douglass

As a beginner with haiku, I tried to find a specific type of experience that I thought was the most influential in my life. Nature is the drive for most of my haiku mainly because I have experienced many "haiku moments" while outdoors, as seen in my Iron River Haiku project about fishing. I plan on continuing my haiku writing as a hobby after this class.

Tony Douglass is a beginner haiku writer. This collection contains the best haiku he wrote while taking Dr. Brooks' Global Haiku Traditions course, spring semester 2004. Many of Tony's haiku are inspired by nature and his many experiences hunting, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of nature. This is a very important part of Tony's life, and as one can see from his haiku, the images he experiences are captured in his haiku. Tony's haiku place the readers in nature.

my hand in the water
a light mist
cooling my face

sleepless night
words of love
she'll never read

cool breeze
clouds moving in
the scent of rain

stormy night
shadows of creatures
appear for only seconds

spring break
on a white beach in Florida . . .
only in my head

eagle's nest
bobbing heads feed
one by one

midnight boat ride
our path lit up
by the stars
