The Circles of Life's Seasons

Global Haiku Tradition--Kasen Renga, Spring 2005

sunny spring morning
fluorescent lights flicker
above empty desks

pleasant breeze
bare feet hidden by uncut grass

playing catch
in the sunlight
her necklace glistening

orange coals
slowly toast marshmallows

cool wind blowing
the moon
rippling on the water

carnival lights brighten
evening sky

her red hair
blocks the view
of the road ahead

leading up to the cross
skidmarks tell the tale

church bulletin
provides relief
in late summer heat

holy water quenches
preacher's parched pooch

dog slobber
softens the earth around
partially buried bones

a single sunflower
covered in frost

moonlight overhead
sparkling with life
eyes of the scarecrow

beyond the rotting fence
a raven lies

untended stables
a horse nudges
the empty grain sack

farmer's tractor
covered in rust and snow

middle of winter
cherry blossoms
bloom in my mind

sitting by the fire
photos bring back memories

white walls
surrounding me
inside and out

grass seed scattered--
granite tombstone

one mark
higher than before
the porch sunk an inch

melting snow
the river spills over its banks

gold and silver
hidden behind
vaulted doors

new friends
replace the old

alone for dinner
still fixing enough
for her lost husband

spaghetti and meatball
stains the white tablecloth

satin and fine china
all exquisite gifts
made in japan

smelly cat
lounging on the window seat

meticulously-spun web
a spider
captures the moon

on the small of her back
ink lines profess her love

spring shower of kisses
touch the baby's cheek
he gently whimpers

several little mouths
anticipate the worm

wings still too weak
the butterfly
remains in the ugly cocoon

bread crumbs mysteriously climbing
up the tree trunk

he tucks the cherry blossom
behind her ear
bittersweet sorrow

a final kiss
hello
