Dream

Global Haiku Tradition--Kasen Renga, Spring 2005

late night
cicadas rolling
twilight breeze

heavy air
tossed sheets

early mist
first crimson leaf
tumbling

last warm day
grass stained knees

swinging tire
silver moon
cuts through branches

lonely power lines
migration

rooftop eyes
watching them kiss
stray calico

black streets
lined with colored trees

20-something jogger
brushes cold sweat
from his brow

noticing her hemline
curiously short

chilled Saturday
his bed beckons
for his warmth

smooth shoulder
peeking through wool

her chin rests
on my shoulder
we name the moon

factory heat welcome
evening stroll

tin cans
hits the curb...
nosey bastard

five deer freeze
my eyes meet theirs

glancing through
our album
last years cherry blossoms

new years day
dry cleaning bills

old man speaks
his breath
before the sound

blue pearl reflecting
on calm waves

drooping pine
needles stabbing
through snow

empty parking lot
perfecting doughnuts

bird song
getting lost
in bird song

pressed together closely
we gain our balance

she looks at me
without me knowing
feigning sleep

unconscious class
awoken by his fart

night shift
reciting my love poem
to coworkers

crusty snow
hidden by shade

moonlit forest
becoming one
empty beer bottles

heavy rain
tail end of spring

muggy downtown walk
headphones on
peace seems possible

five hour drive
constellations guide me

white linen
soaking -
kiddie pool

children laughing
chlorine splashes

beating sun
cherry blossoms
brush her ankles

I awake from a dream
that must be lived
