numb finger tips
on a frozen pond
skating in circles

twenty degrees
sweaty from practice
dreading the walk to the car

late at night
shivering in the bed
why’s the fan on?

he lends a jacket
to block the cold
a tornado of leaves

will tomorrow be the same
took out the trash
to the corner of the street

awake at seven o’clock
noisy boys
with mom in the kitchen

a song of prayer
family joy
stories passed over children’s laughter

snowflakes
kissed her cheek
puffs of frozen breath

this small space
my windows defrost
sitting patiently

brain freeze
chocolate
sun beating down

a wind
shakes the entire house
squirm deeper under covers

walking and talking
in the freezing cold
cold teeth

november night
we huddle together
to cheer the team

dirty laundry
bare feet run across
the cement floor

harsh winds—
we bundle up
together

under the comforter
with the warm dog
waiting for the power

warm blankets
his cold toe stealths
vengeance!

layers on top of layers
lips white and cracked
and my ball in my hands

slide under covers
air conditioning on high
personal igloo

cold lost man
walking through the parking lot
can I use your phone

bus stop
red nose
pretend smoke

ice storm—
tip-toeing down Main
limbs tremble overhead

naked trees and
salt covered ground.
the dog pulls me forward

runny nose
wet toes, wind blows
—play ‘til dark

undressed
in the warm shower
goose bumps and chills

footprints in the snow
cold rushing into my lungs
a footprint lingers

first stride
   gulp of air
lone blade of grass in the snow

cold feet snuggled
under the covers
perfume on the pillowcase

I bundle up like crazy,
then step outside
and dash to the next building

alone
icicles form on the only window
trapped

leaking eyes
blue wind hits
my face

fresh pie for my friend
made of cold earth
happy birthday

starry night
lying on the trampoline
cold nose

numbness
teeth chattering
legs can barely move

running in the park
i inhale
a taste of iron

she stares at the coffin
eyes dry
heart frozen

bitter wind
blasting my face
snow swirling all around

hot chocolate
spilled on new gloves
laughing together

heated seats
frosted windows
wipers frantically scraping

a piece of cheese disappears
as the cat run
around the corner

take care of a kitten?
we can’t even
take care of each other

snow day
steam from hot mugs
family
