Drive Home

by
Amy Hofstetter

This is a collection of haiku I wrote over spring of 2007. It is a variety of experiences, memories, and random thoughts mixed together.

will tomorrow be the same
took out the trash
to the corner of the street

sit in
on this conversation
two feet on the ground

hands so cold they burn
can't stop
snowman must be finished

hair twisting up and around
i close my eyes
and smell the fresh breeze

i hold my hand sideways
the rock ripples
across the water

inhale
my lungs expand
Spring bliss

Curly or straight?
Jeans or a skirt?
I wonder what he’s like

burning leaves
bring the smell of fall
the season of him

reminding me of him
no chocolate
rest in piece

sunglasses on a sunny day
top down
stopped in front of his work
. . . the checkup

rushed in the morning
breakfast of champions
Redbull and a cigarette

on the subway
sketch pad in hand
Did he see me draw him?

drawn beauty mark
above her lips
Marilyn Monroe

my brother
and his final resting day
lays just after my lovers birthday
and right next to my grandfather's grave

melted slush
my shoe has a
hole in it

found myself
in this quiet place
a prayer to catch and gather my thoughts
